Why Saint Philip Howard?

We're excited that many people are interested in and purchasing our short film about Saint Philip Howard! He is such a powerful witness to the Catholic Faith in England especially and it would be so wonderful if many people are inspired toward a deeper friendship with him - especially the English Catholics of today. We were very inspired with his life witness and as there is a gap in resources for our lesser known and sometimes forgotten great Catholic Saints and Martyrs in England (who are so inspiring and exciting) we decided that we would make a short film about him ourselves. Saint Philip was a powerful worldly man; he was a regular at the Royal Court, had immense wealth and popularity, was great at sports, intelligent, lived the university life. Then he had a powerful conversion to the great True Catholic Faith and because of it this young, handsome, powerful nobleman was promptly thrown in the Tower of London. He gave up his freedom, his wealth, his pleasures, his friends and family and could have walked out at any time if he had conformed to Protestantism but he held firm. And while life continued beyond the Tower, he spent eleven years in his cell developing an inspiring prayer life and always expecting at any moment to be hear the keys of his cell door turn, to be escorted down to a cart, tied to a hurdle, dragged violently through London to Tyburn, hanged in front of a HUGE crowd, taken down, sliced open while still alive and then chopped up. Quite stressful to live eleven years with that raw reality waiting to occur. He died however aged 38 in his cell as a powerful witness to us today. It is interesting to ponder that many things could have been different today should Philip Howard had relented - would there be an Arundel castle or indeed and Arundel Cathedral today? Many people
experience great graces upon a visit to Arundel Cathedral and there is a beautiful procession of the Blessed Sacrament yearly from the Cathedral to the Castle...Saint Philip is a fellow English Catholic who certainly knew what it was like to live his faith in a country that is antagonistic towards Catholicism - and the graces and intercession that Our Lord most certainly offers through him are ripe and ready for us today to help in our lives now. Our short film is told in Saint Philip's own words and has historical images, a powerful, moving original soundtrack and some footage of the great English castle and cathedral as it is today. We want it to be an encounter with this great Catholic Saint and Martyr simply for others to be inspired by him and include him in their encounter with Christ.
