Philip Howard is a Sussex Saint and Martyr who had a “childhood marriage” to his stepsister, at age 14 so that his father could maintain his wealth. His father was later executed by Elizabeth I when he planned to marry Mary Queen of Scots and purportedly put her on the throne. Given his status, talents and wealth, young Philip Howard advanced in British society, putting his wife aside as he pursued social rank and influence. He “groveled” to Elizabeth I, who had executed his father. Upon the death of his grandfather, he became second in rank after the queen, i.e., the Earl of Arundel or Premier Earl of England. This documentary presents his encounter with the famous Jesuit priest Fr. Edmund Campion, his daring conversion and his ultimate arrest and 11 year old sentence in the dread tower of London where he refused to renounce his Catholic Faith. He is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
