Saint Aiden of Lindisfarne
Known as the Apostle of the English, Saint Aidan of Lindisfarne was an Irish monk sent to help convert the British to Christianity in the 7th Century. He established a monastery on the island of Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, and from there he set out on foot among the people. His methods of preaching were inspiring and successful, as was his own good example of a devout priest and missionary. As well as looking at Saint Aidan’s life and mission, his friendship with the great Northern Kings and his religious influence, we look at Celtic Christianity in Britain, Saint Bega of Bees, various British conflicts, councils, and battles during this time; prayers, writings, customs and the great Precepts of the Church in a new film presented by Mary’s Dowry Productions. Saint Aidan is one of our great British Saints – the Apostle of the English.
