Description:
Blessed Dominic Barberi was a young, Italian boy when he heard within his soul a special call, asking him to pray and suffer for the conversion of England. He joined the Passionist Order which had been founded by St Paul of the Cross who had also had a uniquely burning love and zeal to see England return to the fullness of Faith.
After waiting for 23 years, Fr Dominic was finally sent to England. While there, he suffered great hardships as he humbly set about showing Catholics and Protestants alike the Truths and Glories of the Catholic Church amidst 300 years of anti-Catholic propaganda and hostility.
He received St John Henry Newman into the Church, worked tirelessly offering Mass, setting up prayer and Mass centres, walking the paths and roads amidst mockery and contempt until he won over many hundreds of people who came to recognise him as a Saint.
He was given the religious name of Father Dominic of the Mother of God and is known as the Shepherd of the Second Spring and an Apostle to England. He is an important figure in the history of the Church, especially for today.
