Margery Kempe

Margery Kempe is famous for her many pilgrimages to the Holy Sites of the Faith such as Rome and Jerusalem, as well as her often shocking accounts of her relationship with Christ and Our Lady, her visions and mysticism and a devout life lived over 600 years ago in England, the Dowry of Mary.

Margery Kempe:

This 14th Century Christian woman was rediscovered in 1930 when her autobiography was found anew. Having lived a fervent and often mystical life as a wife and a mother of fourteen children, Margery Kempe is famous for her many pilgrimages to the Holy Sites of the Faith such as Rome and Jerusalem, as well as her often shocking accounts of her relationship with Christ and Our Lady, her visions and mysticism and a devout life lived over 600 years ago in England, the Dowry of Mary.

In this film, take a journey with a pious, eccentric and deeply devout woman through 14th Century Catholic England, on many pilgrimages abroad, through motherhood, the spiritual life, difficulties, temptations, loud and sometimes embarrassing expressions of fervour, a profound love for Christ’s Passion and the life of Our Lady, accusations, arrests, controversies, prayer, holiness, visions and more with Margery Kempe and The Book of Margery Kempe.

This inspiring woman is honoured in the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion and her autobiography is studied in universities throughout the world.

Written by Tony Triggs, with a narrative that includes words of Margery Kempe as well as words spoken to her by Jesus, this is an inspiring, informative new film produced by Mary’s Dowry Productions that will take the devout pilgrim on a journey with an English woman who is very relevant today.
