Saint Philomena is one of the most powerful intercessors of the Catholic Church, known throughout the worlds as the ‘Wonder-Worker’. She was a Greek princess who promised herself to Christ while still a young girl and took a private vow of virginity. Years later, when the Roman Emperor saw Philomena he wished to make her his Empress but she refused.
The Emperor threatened her, imprisoned her, ordered her torture and execution and still she held firm to her vow to Christ, preferring death and a Heavenly kingdom to all the wealth, glory, pleasure and honours the world could offer.
After her astonishing witness and death, the young Saint was buried in the catacombs of Rome where her body remained until its discovery in 1802.
