Saint Margaret Clitherow is known to many as ‘The Pearl of York’. Canonised in 1970 by Pope Paul VI as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, her story has touched and inspired many throughout the centuries.
Saint Margaret Clitherow was a brave Catholic woman who was crushed to death by law in 1588 for the crime of hiding Catholic priests in her home in Elizabethan England. In this DVD presentation, Saint Margaret Clitherow tells the story of her conversion and her determination to fight for the survival of the Catholic Faith during a time of attempted systematic destruction of the Catholic Church from the government and the Protestant Monarchy. A strong, bold mother and wife, she was outspoken in her zeal for the salvation of souls, calling back lukewarm Catholics and setting up secret Mass centres throughout York.
Upon her dramatic arrest she was radiant with joy as she faced death. She refused to plea and willingly suffered the sentence of Peine forte et dure, seeing herself blessed but unworthy to suffer Martyrdom for the Church that she so loved.
